Climate Justice
Pacific Islanders have contributed the least to the climate crisis. Our emissions are almost negligible compared to the emissions of other large polluting countries, many of whom have both outsized contributions to the climate crisis through their carbon emissions but also a historic legacy of carbon emissions that combined has placed current and future generations at risk of irreparable climate damage. And yet, despite this, it is Pacific Island countries that are the first and hardest hit by climate-induced catastrophe.
We’re actively calling for an end to fossil fuels. To do this, we’re holding big polluting industries and the wealthy governments that support them to account. We’re also helping communities across the Pacific adapt to the changing climate, fight back against the rising tides and speak out about the injustices they’re witnessing. We provide a platform for Pacific Islanders – both the young and matua, to advocate for their issues, to speak to holders of power and to transform the systems and structures that deepen people’s experiences of poverty in the face of the climate crisis.
