Humanitarian Action
Our humanitarian context is shaped by a geography characterised by the volcanic ring of fire, the vastness of our ocean and the span of our islands. Complicating this are experiences of conflict that are magnified by the increasing frequency of climate disasters and natural hazards.
It is within this context that we work, providing desperately needed aid for Pacific Islanders affected by cyclones, ensuring that communities have access to water and sanitation facilities, building community preparedness for disasters, and using cash transfers that allow people to make their own choices about what they need in the aftermath of a disaster.
Our work, delivered through our partners across the region, ensures that we aren’t just responding to disasters or building community preparedness to it but that we are also focusing on building the structures of peace and amplifying the voices of peacebuilders rooted in communities across the region. As we work towards our vision for an equal future, we draw from the courage and resilience of Pacific Islanders as we call out the systems and structures that deepen people’s experiences of poverty in the face of rising conflicts and disasters.
